The need to undelete pictures from SD card media has grown tenfold in the last five years. Microsoft Outlook stores sent and received messages in a special type of database known as a PST file. At the time of its inception many years ago, the 2 GB size limitation of the Outlook PST file seemed as if it could never be exceeded. Today, with many messages containing embedded graphics and attachments, the 2 GB size limitation of the Microsoft Outlook inbox is so regularly exceeded that users find themselves deleting emails just to make space for new messages. Outlook Express is the free email client that comes included with certain versions of the Windows operating system. There are two issues related to data recovery that seem to confuse many computer owners. The first is the process required to recover deleted files from external hard drive storage. For some reason many computer users do not understand that an external hard drive or any other type of external digital media is actually easier to recover files from than their desktop or laptop computer’s internal hard drive. There are many facets to email recovery. The basic premise of email recovery is simply, how does one recover accidentally deleted emails or corrupted and lost email messages? The process begins by figuring out which type of email you’re using. These are divided into two different areas. The first is email that is sent and received by an email client operating from your computer. This application connects to your Internet gateway which may be anything from a private email address, as is usually given to you by your Internet Service provider, such as Comcast or Roadrunner. This email client may also be connected to the Internet to a web based email such as Yahoo or AOL.
In each case, most of the formative control of your sending and receiving emails is done through the e-mail client application which serves as an interface or liaison if you will between yourself and your Internet access. There are economically priced programs to recover accidentally deleted emails that are specifically designed to rescue files lost while using email clients. Examples of these email clients would be Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express. The other most common type of email is purely web based free email whereby you must sign onto your email account to send and receive messages directly from that portal. Email recovery from this type of web based email is extremely difficult if not impossible.
On the surface digital photo recovery seems to be no more difficult than the recovery of any other type of accidentally deleted or corrupted file. One purchases and downloads a quality file recovery program and directs that program to scan through their entire computer hard drive. The scan should return a listing of all recoverable digital image files of the types commonly associated with digital photos. These would include JPGs, jpegs, GIFs, etc. The process of recovering digital photo images should be no more difficult than recovering Word documents, emails or any other commonly used file type. What marks digital photo recovery as more difficult is not what takes place after you have successfully downloaded your photographs from your digital camera onto your computer’s internal hard drive.
What makes recovery of digital image files different and difficult is that very often we assume a successful transfer of our precious photographs only to discover later that many of our images were incomplete. Often we are asked how to recover data from laptop hard drive digital storage. To recover deleted files from laptop hard drive storage you’ll need a powerful third party data recovery program. Don’t be fooled by programs that are obsolete promising to recover files that were accidentally deleted from your laptop computer’s hard disk drive. Those programs may have worked when laptop computer hard drives were only 20 gigabytes in size, but with many laptop computers having huge hard disk drives equivalent to those used on desktop computers, nowadays only a recently developed up to the minute data recovery program is usable.
Consider that older programs used to recover deleted files from laptop hard drive components can only scan for and recover files at a rate of 30 to 50 GB per hour. DBX files are a proprietary file type used by Microsoft Outlook Express. Outlook Express is the starter version of Microsoft Outlook, the world’s most popular e-mail client. Unlike its big brother program Outlook, which stores emails and e-mail applications in a specific data base known as a PST file, Outlook Express stores messages and applications in individual files using the DBX extension. There are two particular problems that occur when dealing with Outlook Express DBX files. Both of these require a program to repair DBX information. The first is that simply transferring DBX files from one media to another such as when emailing a DBX file as an attachment or sending it through a network very often results in corruption of the file itself.
The second problem that occurs with DBX files and consequently relates to Microsoft Outlook Express is that like all proprietary Microsoft applications one cannot open and access DBX files unless one has installed on their computer the proper DBX application. Obviously it is difficult to repair Outlook Express DBX file information if one cannot find or open the files. If you think that deleting or even reformatting your computer’s hard drive or other digital media will permanently erase the information of files stored on them, you are completely wrong. When you delete a file, either purposefully or accidentally, all that occurs is that the Windows operating system marks the space that file occupied as available to be overwritten. Unless and until new information is written over that data, the file information can be recovered using basic data recovery software.
